This is raw stuff. A ten year old can have sex, if it is consensual!! WOW!! The west was a wild place, justifying animal urges legally, at the expense of female/male children. Essentially, pedophilia was encouraged and upheld legally. This makes one be especially grateful for the social sciences and the psychology of today, which understands the damage done to a minor, who lives in a position of powerlessness. Times were especially rough during the 'civilizing' of this country, and most likely still are many places.
It makes it hard to believe in the goodness of humans with laws like this being upheld.
Of course back then medicine was very undeveloped. Also, Males dominated everything. They owned their wives. Basically, women had not rights whatsoever.
One wonders if that is to what the Grand Old Party in Arizona wishes to return.
Have the other provisions of the old the law that you mentioned in your piece and which includes the reinstated abortion ban, been repealed or replaced at some point? That seems a meaningful issue.
