Bruce, I agree that it isn't just right-wing media. Traditional media outlets are also parroting variations of the same claims made by Fiction Notice Company and their clones. I saw a clip of none other than CNN's Jake Tapper, insisting that Biden and Democrats needed to move towards budget cuts to meet McCarthy's demands and avoid default. A Robert Reich Substack post from last week covered the false equivalency of a recent NYT piece, which suggested that Democrats and Republicans are equally responsible for the amount of the country's massive debt. How can Joe's approval numbers improve when the 'friendly' news outlets are pushing the same bad information and flawed perspective as the hostile rags? Add inflation coverage, employment data, economic strength, improved wages of working people, rapid reversal of vaccine rollout failure and Federal pandemic misinformation, to a host of other topics where the news coverage of the Biden administration's accomplishments are covered with a negative slant and tone, then shake and pour. Now take a sip. What is that you taste? National disenchantment.
I agree and think you are on to something. What you cited are the only things that I can think of either. So then, HOW do we counter this? How does one address this sort of national "malaise" afflicting the populace? I'm afraid it won't get better any time soon, in fact if there is a default on the debt, and/or we do lurch into recession, it's hard to say who will get the blame. It does give one pause. The rest of this year is going to be quite a ride, so folks better buckle up!
Short of us all guerilla ambushing Faux news microphones with the truth on a national scale, like that mass shooting victim at Doocy's live shot in Nashville, I am short on ideas. A great deal of our media, even those outlets not blatantly right-wing slanted, is corporate funded. It is difficult to report positively about the accomplishments of a President whose aims and platform, generally stand in direct opposition to the polices and conditions of those providing your operating revenue. We can maybe calmly and firmly give information to the misinformed, who aren't already seemingly subsumed by the Q45 cult, feeding them from time to time with information and links to support to help them see a more complete picture for themselves.
