Mary Baine Campbell: HCR does have to pack her sentences to bursting sometimes, to give us so much good info. Try reading that passage as it came across to me: "...the story of a national shift away from supply-side ideology ... toward an embrace of the idea that the government should hold the playing field level." The active subject in this part of the sentence is "a national shift," not "Reagan Republicans" - that phrase simply serves to modify the term "supply-side ideology." HRC is clearly not saying that supply-siders are part of this shift - quite the opposite. She is showing how this national shift is mobilizing democracy defenders nationwide. People are waking up. It's up to all of us to help turn on the light.

Yes but the paragraph purports to set out “two major Republican stories”—what’s the second of her “major Republican stories”?
