and fully understand that "Lost Cause" mentality is very much alive and well in those same Southern States disguised as MAGA white nationalism. The history they teach is not what anyone in the "north" learns!
A wonderful effort that pinpoints the truth behind the roots of the civil war, Hoperully, Heather will continue. The southern states made a mockery of the reconstruction efforts is seems. Seeing Confederate flags flying during the Jan 6 insurection is a blatent reminder. History always repeats itself. Some learn from it and some do not.
We really need to learn more about and expose....very quickly what Project 2025 is and what is very possible to take place.
Brilliant! Thank you very much. As someone always more interested in European history but now settled happily back in New England for retirement, what HCR said was profoundly meaningful for me. She got at the very center of the difference between our northern Christian (Puritan) core are the southern Christian (but not Puritan but rather authoritarian) core. The slaves would outnumber whites in South Carolina and Georgia. Of course!!!!! Brilliant! And that our constitution which said the profoundly Christian belief that all men are created equal would make it very difficult for southerners to deal politically with a black majority. Brilliant!
HCR made the whole conflict so simple. What she didn't go into but implied for all those following what is happening now in the US, is that the divide between northern Christians and others who are agree with them, and southern Christians (I guess largely "Evangelicals") appears to remain strong.
Most of my friends don't understand where I am coing from, but I think the Puritan background of New England and northern American Christianity still has a very strong footprint in where we are now on these issues.
The country never fully recovered from the rebellion for and against slavery following the Civil War bringing us to our present day dilemma. Thank you Heather again for a clear and precise letter of where we are. The antiquated notion that only a privileged few have a voice today must be resolved 🇺🇸🗽🗳️
