Talking to people about voting, but not about campaigning yet. Let the candidates make their own cases, then if you feel comfortable ( and have the energy and the inclination), join in. Join the party that reflects your values, even if imperfectly, and ask how you can help out. Write letters to the editor. Write on your local community forum. Go door to door for whichever party you choose to work with, if you do. (This is among the most effective things we can do, by the way.) Write postcards/letters. This is grass-roots work and this year it is more critical than it has been for a long time. You can't do it all, but pick something you can do and go for it.
