One of HCR other readers lives in Bar Harbor as well and has been threatened by him for her protests. He is an ass of the highest degree.
(I'm a Mainer, too...living far inland and up in the hill country. We have been planning a mini-vacation to the Island to bike on the Carriage Roads...we were down this Spring, but too early and the Carriage Roads were not yet open. We made plans to come down in the Fall and the Repubbie MAGAs had to have a tantrum. Looks as though ANP might (probably will) be closed. Sigh.)
TL. I know what you mean about the Carriage Trail not being open when you want to use it. But, there is a rails-trails bike trail that runs from Ellsworth up to Calais (I think that's the end point.) It's supposed to be very nice. Maybe you've already biked it.
My wife and I are hikers and we've been hiking several different trails that are within 20 minutes of our house lately. There are at least 10 - 1-5 mile hikes close by. Lots of rocks and tree roots so not bike riding trails. The roads around Schoodic may not be that busy this time of year so that may also be an option. Angus King and his wife like to go to Schoodic point and he speaks highly of that part of Acadia National Park.
I think the main part of Acadia may be pretty quiet now. We're going to hike around Jordan Pond tomorrow.

We have camped at Schoodic Woods and ridden the Schoodic Point loop several times and it always enchants! Should the Carriage Trails get closed, that will no doubt be one of our rides. I have, indeed, pedaled the Downeast Sunrise Trail from Franklin to Cherryfield and it is a great ride (as long as no logging is going on!) I'd like to do the Franklin to Ellsworth section and we may get to do so this trip! Have a great hike tomorrow!
Good luck with your "new part" surgery. If it's a hip, I spoke to a friend of mine who showed me his small scar from his hip replacement. He said he arrived for the surgery at 7:00 am and was walking on his new hip at 4:30 that afternoon.
If it's a knee, my brother-in-law just had his replaced about a month ago and is doing great. My sister has already turned the yard work back to him.
It is indeed a knee and I have already had one knee replaced and good grief, what a difference in my life!! I was up and walking (gingerly) that day; in rehab three days later and in two weeks I didn't even need a cane. I can't wait to get my other knee done--I'll be able to cross country ski this weinter (provided we get adequate snow) and maybe I'll be able to do a little downhill skiing next year!
Good for you! I hope the other knee heals as well as the first.
We just got back from hiking in Acadia. It was a zoo. I suppose it's partly because it will likely be closed tomorrow. Not much color in on the island yet, but it's still amazing.
