Good for Doug Jones.

Good for Heather recalling that era when too many things in their turn then seemed hopeless.

But the music. First of all -- all that energy from Motown. And then Sam Cooke, "A Change is Gonna Come." Joan Baez, "We Shall Overcome." Otis Redding, "Dock of the Bay." And so much more.

The Civil Rights era positively shone with all that music. Kept hope up. Kept the human front and center -- as if all that racism, all that prejudice, all that stereotyping could never match the advantage arts could give -- can give.

Thank you for your bravery, Heather. Sadly the KKK has now taken over the White House. I wrote a poem for you inspired by your wisdom - let’s keep protesting in the streets together: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/heather-cox-richardson-letters-history-democracy
