Brilliant explanation of why we elect Senators and why some of the candidates are still trying to buy their way into power. Instead of handouts and bribes to legislators that could, once upon a time 'appoint; you. Now you buy the voters with advertising and misinformation and whatever your money can buy. It's also explains why I get about a dozen emails a day begging for money for the candidates i've previously given money to and candidates who get the list with my name on it. How much does money determine who wins?

Good closing question. One I'd like to understand better myself.

It's a factor, but by far NOT the only factor. Strength of the candidate, quality of messaging, and zeitgeist are all BIG that can outweigh funding.

Clearly this has to stop. This uncontrolled $ in politics clearly makes for disastrous results unless one is in that multimillionaire, billionaire club. Personally , find it repulsive. I find their motives repulsive. Sigh

I agree, Elon Musk’s purchase of votes seems illegal. He likely thinks he’s going to have a lot of power in a Trump administration. Makes you wonder what JD Vance thinks.

This is maybe the wrong place to ask this question, but I'm wondering what folks are thinking about Elon's buying of votes? This is without precedent, correct? It seems illegal, but surely he thinks he has a leg to stand on. Thoughts?
