Is it wrong for Bloomberg and the Chicago Economist club to host the guy responsible for a violent coup J6th? Does the ethics of such an invitation to a twice impeached former president, a rapist, a convicted felon, with 6 bankruptcies even register with these people? Without the rule of law, what scope of economic disaster(s) awaits?

Good grief! The normalization of TFG and other mistakes needs an audit by Bloomberg and The Chicago Economic Club.

So true, an outlet for a NUT to rant and create trouble for the future of America...

Does it matter if "it was wrong?" It already happened duh!

I think so. Like 1920-30’s Germany, the most educated and prosperous countries at the time, he got a lot help from the business community. I thought it necessary to remind the Chicago Economists Club of that fact. Don’t validate the demagogue. Dint placate the fascist.

I watched part of the rally where the republican candidate wiggled around the stage for 39 minutes after taking only 5 questions from the audience. Is he still sane? Or has he finally gone completely around the bend? They could not get him take anymore questions. He just wanted to wiggle to music that did not seem to fit the occasion. OMG how did we get to this place? Thank goodness the Democrats have Kamala Harrtis. She will be great!

It could easily suggest dementia, but a simpler interpretation is to prevent unscripted (or any more) questions; e.g. to cut off any debate about his answers, no matter if he looks as crazy as a June bug. Or else it’s advanced cognitive decline. Trump’s followers are drinking the “let’s wiggle” koolaid since they also don’t want him to face real questions. Somebody give the clever conman a lollipop!

And Kamala can't appear in Michigan for fear of Gaza voices being heard. that's the other thing: won't win with fear.

No, she would be great.

well, we got to this place first because of the Bush regime. The forever wars, the blatant lying, 9/11, election stolen via Jeb bush and Supreme Court. Yeah, how DID we get to the point where we are groveling for help with from our enemies? Kamala is no progressive or Democrat: she's a center-right Republican.

we also got to this place because of MSNBC. 2015 trump called in to morning joe ALL THE TIME, to guffaws. Scarborough, July 2015: "Golly, there's something about this guy that almost reminds me of Jack Kennedy." Yeah, those were the days, hey Joe? Over-reliance on the media generating total complacency by the Dem's, who don't know how to fight. We are going to lose. All it takes is a cursory glance at these comments.

Still, the audience of economists applauded many of Trump's stupid statements. How can that be? How can economists like Trump's tariff plan?

Expand full comment

I don’t assume the audience was all economists - probably weren’t. To me, it sounded like very few people were applauding, just loudly.

Were the audience members economists? Economists may also be Trump supporters, don't you think?

You're a democrat, and you're appealing to the "economists." how's that working out for you?

Bonkers is being kind. TFG has lost touch with reality. I enjoy your work. Thanks so much.

All his MAGA loyalist need to subscribe to her newsletter... not that they would actually read it. Even if her work is well-sourced and researched, they would claim it as fake news. Everything they don't agree with is either fake news or a conspiracy.

They probably WOULD subscribe, just to troll...

As a woman twice divorced, (but I don't have any cats) I can state unequivocably ; It is better to be single and married to an abuser. JD Vance is spewing. Sounds a lot like some of the horrible memoirs I've read coming out of the Mormon tradition of marrying as many young wives as possible. Then the women can put out and shut up. I will not go back to verbal and physical abuse. I choose freedom

So true. As Marx said, don't trust the intellectuals. They speak for, and in general, ARE the ruling classes.

This place is an echo chamber. What happened to joy? now it's just reaction to Trump again. You don't win with reaction. Should've gone with Whitmer/Shapiro. The coronation was baptism via woke. Mad at you guys. you're as responsible as anyone.

Please what? Please fuck off? Not many seem to be in agreement with you I notice. It was bed-wetting panic attack, okay. Things are in situ. Now I'm more optimistic. Crazy election. But you're right, I apologize (to you NOT MSNBC) for being disingenuous: I'm not REALLY mad at you folks. I also apologize for invoking "woke." That was just stupid. Period. But please be.more specific next time...as in please, go fuck off, for starters...
