That was great to hear again thanks Heather.

This is what it sounds like when someone actually understands how power works.

"This is not only how we stop Trump; it's how we stop the next one" - that's not resistance rhetoric, that's structural engineering.

He's not fighting symptoms, he's dismantling the conditions that produce authoritarians. Holding bad landlords accountable, ending billionaire tax evasion, ironclad labor protections. That's infrastructure, not performance art.

And the policy specificity lands: rent freeze for 2M+ stabilized tenants, fast and free buses, universal childcare. Those aren't aspirations - those are deliverables with measurable outcomes and timelines.

The 100,000+ volunteer network? That's not campaign machinery that evaporates after election night. That's organized capacity that translates directly to legislative pressure and implementation leverage. That's how you actually get things done.

"I refuse to apologize for any of this", leadership claiming authority through demonstrated capacity, not asking permission to exist in the space.

The real test comes when he hits the state-level authority constraints every NYC mayor faces. But this speech confirms he knows the game is building the alternative that works, not just opposing what doesn't.

Competence with conviction. Finally.

Beautifully said. This captures the rare moment when politics feels grounded in purpose instead of performance. Real power is the ability to build systems that outlast any one leader, and what you’ve described is the architecture of durable change—practical, moral, and collective. It’s encouraging to see competence reclaim the stage.

Amen to a message we all were yearning to hear! Hope not despair, community not division, diversity and equity for all. Noble words to inspire us 🇺🇸

Zohran is the future of the democratic party! He is making herstory with an all-female transition team. Cheers to everyone who beat the fascists back on Tuesday. I wrote a poem celebrating our brave candidates: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/a-poem-for-election-day-2025

In the formidable and brilliant Lina Khan he already has more brainpower avaialble to him than Trump's entire cabinet of cronies.

That’s wonderful, and I love your energy! Zohran’s leadership really does feel like a turning point—a blend of courage, inclusivity, and real policy depth. An all-female transition team sends a powerful message about representation in action. Everyone should check out your poem, it's a perfect tribute to this moment: ''In 2025, a fragile hour,

When reason bends to demagogues’ power..." https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/a-poem-for-election-day-2025

You knocked it out of the park AGAIN, Heather. I am so sick of not only the MAGA GOP trying to divide us, but the pundits, media and know-it-alls trying to stay relevant. Zohran won it all with the people who believe in the big umbrella, and despite the attacks. Thanks for being the voice of reason and inclusion.

Friends of Letters from an American, The Washington Post, Nov 4 article exposed a quiet revolution inside MAGA.

It’s not just about Trump anymore — it’s about money, power, and code.

A small donor circle — led by Arizona businessman Chris Buskirk with backing from Peter Thiel, Rebekah Mercer, and others — has built a machine called the Rockbridge Network. It gathers voter data from churches and civic groups, funds “patriotic capitalism” start-ups, and runs a private club in D.C. where CEOs and Trump officials meet behind closed doors.

Their plan is to turn MAGA into a permanent system, powered by venture money, algorithms, and ideology. Buskirk calls it “aristopopulism” — rule by a “productive elite” guiding the working class. Sounds noble until you realize it’s the same old story: billionaires rebranding control as patriotism.

This is how democracy gets rewritten — not by mobs at the gate but by quiet deals inside boardrooms. The Rockbridge network is the new Trojan Horse. It wears the colors of the people while carrying the ambitions of the few.

If we care about the future of democracy, we must expose and counter these hidden power circuits before they hard-wire the system. Let there more discussion, your opinions and ideas to fight back. Our election gains yesterday are first step to un-hijack our democracy.

The name Chris Buskirk (yet another billionaire that has been hiding behind the curtain like Mellon) is new to the billionaire list as being involved, but the truth is that this was NEVER just about T. Buskirk is NOT new to the scene. His core belief is that an aristocracy needs to control the nation & its people.

T is NOT the most dangerous person - he is just the person that is out front. His bluster & threats take front stage, while the real anchors of this maga movement to the right are still in control. Much has gone on behind the scenes for decades, including that the mainstream news media has been increasingly in GOP billionaire pockets since Reagan ended the Fairness Doc. The Gilded Age theme of the Mar a Lago party was NOT an accident. These cretins (our modern KKK) want the rights of POC, women, LGBTQ ended and the disabled (physical or mental) be hidden or put to menial work. Some red states are lowering the age for children to be able to work. Since the rich seem "reluctant" to see the Epstein papers released and don't want gun laws to save our children from facing shootings in their schools, we know that they don't care about children unless they are are their own offspring. It is going to be extremely difficult to extricate the fingers of the greedy, rich white racists from the hands of our government. Too many citizens were too ignorant for too long not even trying to be informed or sadly to vote.

Thiel, Musk, Zuckerberg have already been doing the hard-wiring. Thiel has been aiding ICE by providing tech that allows them to track people around the country. Thiel & Musk have multiple Federal gov't contracts. ALL of the tech buddies know that private control of AI will make taking over the nation much easier. Miller has helped to establish an armed private army that is destroying the lives of many. Musk's Starlink satellites are everywhere. Why did 1 of them mysteriously explode shortly after the election? What data are they collecting that might be of concern?

If it's control they wanted they shouldn't have picked Trump who is an agent of chaos. They were landed with him because he commands an incomprehensibly loyal base who he's in the process of further impoverishing and because there's no one else in the Republican party remotely capable of commanding such blind loyalty. There are some similarities here with 1930s Germany with senior people in the Weimar government foolishly confident that they could control Hitler and remove him when necessary. Now these same billionaires who seek control are being regularly humbled by Trump and forced to accede to his wishes.

my favourite line:

So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us. When we enter City Hall in 58 days, expectations will be high. We will meet them. A great New Yorker once said that while you campaign in poetry, you govern in prose.

Now is more important than ever to work together and support this through. I outlined the challenges I found and sent them direct to the team. Im sure theres many more but albany is a must.

This is the democrat I want to hear, to herald, and to hope will be the true voice of democracy.

AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Kamala Harris, and Barack Obama are also important voices of democracy. Had the majority only listened to Obama's last speech and to Biden's last State of the Union and BELIEVED the facts that they told, we would not be here.

I really believe that we have turned to page and are moving forward in a new way.

As a writer, words are my path. So I would like to offer the phrase, power vote.

It reminds us of what Zohran Mamdani pointed out: we the American people are remembering that we have agency.

Let's power vote, now and into the future.

Emergency Prayer Circle Formed After New York Elects Socialist Mayor(Satire)

“Republicans are scrambling to redefine socialism before anyone notices it means fixing potholes and funding schools.”

Somewhere deep in the heart of conservative America, alarms are going off. Sirens, church bells, and at least one bald eagle are screaming in unison. A socialist has won New York City, and the MAGA faithful are bracing for what they call “the fall of Western civilization,” otherwise known as Tuesday.

Ted Cruz sprinted onto Sean Hannity’s set at Fox News, declaring that this election night amounted to a “disaster” for conservatives and that the new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, was not just a friendly progressive but a “communist jihadist,” a “full-on communist,” and “the face of the Democrat party.” His voice trembled somewhere between outrage and performance art, which, for Cruz, is often the same thing.

In rural diners, panic is brewing faster than the coffee. “First they came for the billionaires,” one man mutters, “and I didn’t speak up because I’m not a billionaire. But now they’re coming for my right to overpay for insulin.”

Meanwhile, Republican strategists are scrambling to redefine socialism before anyone notices it means things like fixing potholes and funding schools. Cruz doubled down, warning that New York’s election was proof that America is “sliding into socialism,” all while quietly cashing his government paycheck and enjoying his taxpayer-funded health insurance.

In Florida, Ron DeSantis has already banned “hope-based governance,” calling it “a gateway drug to empathy.” Donald Trump, upon hearing the news, insisted that he too was once a socialist “before anyone else,” and that Mamdani “actually stole his idea” of making government about the people—though “the wrong people.”

By Wednesday morning, Fox had pivoted to its comfort zone: fear. “Next thing you know,” said one host, “they’ll be expecting billionaires to pay taxes.” The panel gasped audibly.

And so, the right braces for impact, clutching pearls and private jets alike. Because if Mamdani’s win proves anything, it’s that the one thing conservatives fear more than socialism… is democracy actually working. https://essayx.substack.com/p/emergency-prayer-circle-formed-after

London is reportedly experiencing a significant departure of wealthy residents, driven by higher taxes and economic uncertainty. The abolition of the non-domiciled (non-dom) tax status has been a major catalyst, with high-net-worth individuals moving to countries with more favorable tax regimes. While some reports label the trend a massive "exodus," others question the scale, though there is consensus that London has lost its status as a top-5 wealthiest city and is seeing a record net outflow of millionaires.

.

Notably, during the six-year period from 2017 to 2023 post Brexit the UK has lost 16,500 millionaires to migration. Provisional estimates for 2024 are even more concerning, with a massive net outflow of 9,500 millionaires projected for this year alone.

.

Gayle Logan's avatar

No surprise. Brexit was passed because of the right winged gov't in power at the time. They were influenced by the same alt-right group that was pushing for power in Europe. That was also the group Steve Bannon had been involved with prior to T's arrival on the political stage. But it was McConnell who met with Bannon after Obama was elected for a 2nd time. McC was infuriated that a Black man had won a second time - just like the greedy rich white racist billionaires McConnell served. It was McC that enabled the GOP to add more conservative justices to the SC as another step to gaining control of the US. Our billionaires do not want to leave, they just want to own the country.

Russell John Netto's avatar

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) forecast in January that 25% of non-doms with trusts would leave the UK in response to the abolition of the tax status, while 10% of those without trusts would leave. Official data suggests this prediction was broadly correct. Non-dom status was a relic of colonial times and deeply unfair so good riddance to them.

The US is being run by the billionaire class in their own interests and not in the interests of the country and its citizens.

D4N's avatar

I'd speculate the "non-dom" rights and status is needing some change; Then barriers to return and with that, "hopes and prayers" that they remain forever satisfied with their life choices.

Russell John Netto's avatar

I don't think we should be overly concerned about what billionaires do. If you live in the UK then that's where you should be taxed. Under the previous Conservative government, the UK became a tax haven for oligarchs. Our banks protected their loot; our lawyers defended them in court and our public schools enthusiastically welcomed their children. We pimped out the City of London and the Caribbean tax havens that fly the union flag and banks used the eurodollar to carry on pumping liquidity into the City without limits or restrictions, while offering their wealthy clients the choice of having their assets counted in Britain, the US or both – whichever was the most profitable and tax efficient. The party's over now and has moved to the US where Trump's Golden Card is an offer they can't refuse. That is going to pollute your politics for years to come.
