Count me among those thankful for your nearly-daily commentary ~ words that educate, soothe and, hopefully, bring our nation's historic calling back within grasp.

There is a contingent of anti-Thanksgiving people, citing the earliest origin story of the holiday. But, as HCR points out, that story has been superseded. And has morphed a great deal since the post-Civil-War era. I used to love that it was an almost entirely non-commercial holiday, but of course THAT could not stand in the late capitalism of our current century.

But I am a cook and this is one holiday where I could have a lot of fun doing that. And gratitude is a very good thing, however it manifests. So I think of it as a day of thanks for a fruitful harvest to be shared with community by having a feast. This is a tradition as old as time. Happy Thanksgiving y'all, however you celebrate!
