The Most Dangerous Words: “We’re Actively Looking at Suspending Habeas Corpus”
The most alarming part of this chaos is the open threat to suspend the writ of habeas corpus. That single change would allow the government to arrest anyone, hold them without charges, and silence dissent indefinitely. It would mark the end of a free society. Stephen Miller’s statement that “we’re actively looking at” this suspension is not just posturing. In a government already defying court rulings and arresting officials outside public buildings, this is a warning.
The administration has shown it will bypass legal processes, ignore Congress, and disregard intelligence protocols. Now, it wants unchecked power to imprison without trial. That should send a chill through every American, regardless of party. If a president can name a scapegoat, lock them up, and call it justice, then liberty becomes a privilege for the powerful, not a right for all. This moment demands courage, not complacency.
Habeas corpus is the bedrock of American freedom. Lose it, and we lose the Republic.
"What he claimed were Trump's wishes," and the rest of them believed Miller? This is frightening. Would the regime believe Miller if he said that about ordering a nuclear attack? I guess I'll go on You Tube to watch Dr. Strangelove again.
I've done the same thing! Usually with "they're, there, and their". If I'm lucky, I catch it before posting. Nice to know we're all human and not AI. Have a good day!
That happens to me, too. I think Spellcheck does that. I think it defaults to what we commonly use in our posts. It always puts Allie’s when I type allies.
The threats are designed to scare immigrants out of the country and keep others from coming. Some are here in fear of that, which Trump is doing here- was done to them back home.
"The administration appears not to be able to attract the caliber of federal officials to which Americans have become accustomed."
This wins the Internet, for all time!
The flat-out refusal to do their jobs & be accountable for anything is unfathomable. Did anyone see the clip of Patel being informed he was breaking the law by not presenting his budget? He was clearly saying he was aware & did not care. These people are often ignorant, but they do know what they are doing. We are not only accustomed to some level of competency, but have the expectation of people taking responsibility for their actions. Tolerating this caliber of people in leadership is unfathomable.
Maybe the defense against the Trumpists is the very large number of military weapons in the hands of everyday Americans who will not give in to his dictatorship. I hope this is not necessary, but with 3 1/2 years remaining in Trump’s presidency, what are the alternatives?
That is the constitutional justification for the second amendment right to “keep and bare arms close “. It is not to permit hunting of wild animals or even, really, to facilitate personal or home defense.
It may well be constitutional justification for hunting, etc., but it is limited to that and self protection. But it is limited to pistols. Automatic weapons, for example, are NOT permitted under the constitution!
Perhaps we should call it the Fox&Friends Dictatorship, since a good part of the krazy, kooky, kleptocratic cabal of the cabinet and key positions formerly served as hosts on the network. Huh! Seems like they’re almost all Russian sympathizers! Their near-total contempt for the constitution and the law, and civil rights, and international treaties indicates that they think they ARE our dictatorship, regardless of any number of court judgements about their illegality. They show complete contempt for GOP pols in Congress by not even bothering to enact the so-called “reforms” through legislation; for example, immigration reform. If they see no need for the Congress now, doesn’t that imply that we are now already in a dictatorship? Each day brings a nauseating new wave of corruption by these people. Hopefully Jennine Pirro will make such an ass of herself as U.S. Attorney in DC, that the MAGA voters will finally realize what they asked for. Meanwhile, should we be referring to President Miller, given that Humpty is now saying “I don’t know” to questions posed by journalists. Is Stephen calling the shots now?
Automatic weapons did not exist at the time of the constitution so what is your authority for saying it forbid them? I think a rule of reason and the concept of original intent should be applied. To my mind that permits semi automatic weapons, but not, for example, private owner ownership of atomic weapons, poison, gas, etc., etc.
Given that the Founding Fathers had no threat of nuclear weapons and chemical weapons, would the main threat back then been muskets and cannon fire? Also, George Washington required his soldiers to receive a smallpox vaccination skin-scratch procedure to improve their readiness to fight the British; smallpox was a deadly biological threat back then, as now. It seems our second amendment was designed, as Mark noted, to allow citizens to fight a bad government and win (as the British overlords discovered). Apparently a large part of our population sees that as the key reason that they own guns & ammo - to fight a despotic federal government. Isn’t it a bit ironic that they may have to use the weapons against the government they enacted?

Horrifying as Trump has been since the beginning.
"What he claimed were Trump's wishes," and the rest of them believed Miller? This is frightening. Would the regime believe Miller if he said that about ordering a nuclear attack? I guess I'll go on You Tube to watch Dr. Strangelove again.
What a circus of fools!
Finally. Hopefully some of these Republicans are waking up.
If the Republicans don’t wake up and rein trump and his Department Secretaries in, we will be in a horrible place. This is frightening.
I totally agree with your statement, but it's "rein" in, as in a horse's rein. When you spell it "reign" it's the rule of a king.
Thank you. I just corrected it. I don’t know why I made that mistake because I know better than that.
I think that is called a Freudian slip

Beyond belief...
What a cluster... 🥴

A horrific reality.
Well, Jeanine likes a good drink. Maybe her and SecDef can have tailgate parties.

"A leadership void"- indeed.
We're all paying for it on so many levels.
