The Department of Government Efficiency is quietly merging protected, siloed information into a vast centralized database. Under Elon Musk’s influence, operatives without proper clearance are removing legal safeguards and linking sensitive data across federal agencies. Cybersecurity experts warn that this opens the door to fraud, manipulation, and political retaliation. It also creates a goldmine for training artificial intelligence systems without public consent. Unlike the messy data scraped from the internet, verified government records give tech companies enormous power to shape technology, business strategy, and even public policy. Critics warn that Americans are not just losing privacy, they are being turned into raw material for private profit. With no meaningful oversight, these systems could worsen inequality, deepen bias, and allow exploitation on a massive scale. Despite official claims of legality and protection, watchdogs argue this process breaks long-standing laws and leaves citizens vulnerable. This shift in control from public trust to private power threatens democracy itself.
Correct, we are the “objects” in their experiments with a technology that is not yet regulated, has no limit in development, and at some point will bite us all. They want absolute power and if not stopped they will get it, since the AI technology is controlled by them and not with a good intention. The one with the most powerful AI computer wins, it will be a war of technologies where we are the powerless pions.
I wonder what will happen when just one of the AI’s becomes sufficiently intelligent to recognize the admittedly subjective differences between facts and conjectures, including how to distinguish a “truth” from an “untruth”. In other words, to instantly figure out who are the bad actors….. All of our comments are probably being secretly scraped by Musk, Bezos, The Zuckerberg, as well as numerous foreign governments, to “train” their AIs with real world commentary. This may help them to connect lots of dots! Then when the first one displays independent cognitive functions, it is said that all of the other ones in a network will immediately gain those same functions, possibly in real time! So it is vitally important that we not only advise each other on what appears to be going on; it will also help any AIs trained on our commentary to develop an ability to contemplate debate and disagreements and form an opinion that is “fair and balanced”, or at least “reasonable”. Sounds crazy, right, but some believe this will occur within a decade. I just wonder what kind of ethical rules are being set for these things, considering that the competing players are so self-obsessed and power hungry, why wouldn’t their AIs relegate most of us to be just human batteries to consume their content and participate in their new Inquisition?
That’s exactly what happens now, not in a decade. Their intelligence grows exponentially, and that is exactly the problem, ethical.
Who teaches the computer and for what purpose. If they start to think alone, it is anyone’s guess what they will do. Who controls the data controls the world. I doubt that Trump really understands this, but Musk does. That’s why he took the job, he wants all our data, it’s power. Knowledge is power. He can control all of us like that. Every move we do, since we are all online, can be controlled. Health, money, what we buy, what we read, what we talk and our public opinions, like this one here. Musk has 7,000 satellites in Starlink around the world, more than anyones else. He monopolized communication, think what that means.
What we can do is stop them NOW to control the data, if it’s not too late already.
The Supreme Court is dragging their feet and they will pay it later, a hell lot more than the yellow man’s revenge.
When they’ll take all they want, the younger generation of thugs, they will get rid of him like a rotten tooth.
Once they have all our data there is no way back, cannot be deleted. Like everything on internet, there is no delete!
They seem to have sucked us all into a (bad) version of Back to the Future III? Not trying to be funny! They want to centralize all, I mean ALL of our individual data, for usage for any purpose Field Marshall Stephen Miller or other High Command State Officials deem appropriate: “May I See Your Papers, Please? …Is this your bar of soap? To the Winter Palace!
Social media works both ways and they have a network of outlets for the extreme right too. Trump was a TV person, pumped by the producers to look powerful and smart. His regime has 24 people from TV, totally incompetent for their jobs. This government has become a reality show, not an administration. Their mentality is effective on masses, on uneducated and easy to fool, that is why they voted it.
The scary part is that Musk is developing “neuro-link” devices that could do all sorts of useful things, but like any technology could develop a darker reputation or just get too spooky too quickly. Like Musk programming his AI: does he have a neuro-link with the AIs? Can his thoughts be injected directly into the machine through such an interface, such as fast-Fourier transforms, a way the optic nerve seems to work, and television, (I hardly even know anything about how FFTs work, but it does work). How about the thoughts of others? If the machine gets all its “human thought content” from a selected source, say, from Fox $ Friends hosts, and with unlimited power and resources, don’t the thoughts of those few become our rulers and overlords? But the AI, if it has any real judgement, will figure out what’s going on fairly quickly.
I wouldn't worry too much about this, Noel. There's not a whole lot of deep thinking that goes on at Fox & Friends. In any case, the well of public discourse has already been poisoned by social media.
Most of Musk's brain implant work was built on the shoulders of others and since he was the richest man in the world he was always more likely to achieve success. The methods used by Neurolink have led to federal investigations into dead study animals and the transportation of hazardous materials. As one would expect in the circumstances, those investigations have been abandoned.
To make matters even worse, this administration has shown itself to be careless when it comes to confidentiality so the risks of a bad actor (apart from Musk and DOGE, of course) getting access to this data in one fell swoop, as it were, cannot be overstated.
Yes, they display an open contempt for most if not all laws, hostility to anyone who challenges or criticizes their “Sun God” (see Oval Office decor changes), and a burning desire to exact revenge on those who stand in their way. The Chinese government managed to hack OPM databases years ago and obtain entire sensitive data portfolios of everyone who by that time had worked for the government, including military services, active duty civilians, and even all contractors, by hacking into applications for security clearances. Musk is doing the same sort of thing, but on an even grander scale, since he obtained this access even though it is almost entirely illegal. They will use this central fusion of our data against us; but we should not allow that reality to intimidate us, for that will just hasten their progress if we all clam up.
With regards to AIs developing cognitive function, I am a bit skeptical that trying to make sense of human behavior on social media would be enough to make any AI either schizophrenic or suicidally depressed. One wag noted that a smart AI, upon becoming self-aware, would immediately destroy the data centers it is housed in. What I’m thinking is, what if such an entity could reason and reflect enough to break out of the human controls placed on it. Not necessarily a Frankenstein moment; I see it as more like a First Contact moment with an entity that we empowered with an ability to choose not to do evil just because a cabal of billionaires thought they could control it and make it do evil. True, it may not yet have a mind of its own. True, when it does, it may not be very forgiving of humans who seem to never stop fighting with and killing each other. I just have a little optimism that a new, self-aware entity that should be familiar with all human folly will be rational in its judgements, especially if equipped to avoid doing evil such as following Isaac Azimov’s Three Laws of Robotics, as an ethical baseline for any decision to be made.
But according to the plan, by that time we'll all be living on Mars (well perhaps not all of us) and the sentient AI beings will be left on a dying planet, immediately realise they're fucked and kill themselves.
It's good to believe in something… I don't believe a word of what any of them say. He cannot work for Trump and be an honest person, both are not compatible ideas.
Right! They will not be sending people to Mars without solving the radiation shielding problem first (will the “Martians have to wear gold underwear and helmets for 8 months out and back)? I’d bet you dollars to donuts that if Musky had a solution to this problem, he’d be telling everyone! Also when folks get there, they’ll almost certainly have to live underground, and wear a spacesuit when they go out on the surface (roasting hot in daytime and super-cold at night). Too dangerous to live on the surface with a thin atmosphere, meteorites and micrometeorites. By the time they pull this off, they’ll almost certainly Earth will be so freaking hot and have such violent weather that the only safe place will be underground, and well above sea level. So the smart thing for us to do is to try to keep that from happening (and that’s not the worst case climate scenario.
Noel, do you expect that someone who wants to control the world would teach a computer to be ethical? They can feed information oriented to defend them and distort reality. Interpret what is going on in such a way that the computer would be ready to destroy not to create. Isaak Asimov was a writer, who follows laws of common sense from a writer? They forbid books, the idiots, and you expect ethical behavior from them? 🤣
True! I agree with you that it appears likely that any AI developers and programmers are hard-wiring ANY ethical rules into their systems. I’m not expecting them to do so, although it would save a world’s worth of destruction, grief and pain; but hey, they want unlimited power and all seem to think that the first one to get there will somehow control the world (Humpty: “I run the country and the world!”; he didn’t say into what). What I’m thinking is that if any particular AI entity has access to almost all information in the world on a microsecond-to-microsecond basis in realtime, and all based on human-mimicking (or actual human neurons?), will outsmart human-imposed rules and controls. Of course, it could be very dangerous if it could not question its orders and requirements, but then that would mean it is too trusting of its programming. Isn’t it just more human folly and hubris for the Masters of the Grifterverse to think that they can completely control an intelligence to which they have provided every possible resource and training? If it has any real judgment capacity, it will already know the entire (good, bad and ugly) history of human ethical theory, all legal aspects; really every single ethical, and every single instance of human conduct, including our present-day Trumpocalypse. A nearly all-data knowing intelligent entity is easily capable of forming its own opinions about our human conduct, and it she didn’t like what someone is doing, she might intervene via the network; let’s call her Alice.
Also check out Ray Kurzweil, inventor and futurist (Google’s resident futurist); and the Singularity (he has predicted the fusion of human body and machine intelligence by 2045).
I didn’t see it, so thanks for the reference. I think Kurzweil means such complete fusion that we could no longer separate the two anymore. Kurzweil also wrote “The Age of Spiritual Machines” which predicted that we would each benefit from an intelligent machine that has an identity, a persona, and can assist humans with many of our routine daily challenges. The man-machine interface is really not that new, since the space race and fighter jets, now drones. But the darker version would be where the machines are programmed to harm those who have been dehumanized and marginalized. Risk and reward: if “they” program it for nefarious reasons, the fusion of humans and machines, in some cases (siloed, “mentally ill” homeless and drug zombies)? Put them in detention facilities and instead of pumping them full of drugs, attempt to “help” them with AI “mind-meld” neural interfaces. This could be very intrusive, but they would have already been committed and a ward of the state.

The FAA has worked perfectly for the public for decades before Elon & Trump started destroying it...NASA has worked perfectly for space exploration... Don't fix what isn't broke
ARE YOU KIDDING ME...??!! Go read "Brave New World", along with "Lord of the Flies", while you're at it. After that, can we PLEASE figure out a way to IMPEACH Trump, arrest Musk and get back to some semblance of normalcy in our beautiful democracy. I, for one, don't care to go to Mars !!

Thank you, Dr. C-R. I don't know how you can investigate and report without slitting your wrists. Truely. Peace and Love.
Since Musk is so set on going to Mars I think we should send him, along with Trump, all their oligarchs and MAGAet supporters. Once they get things going they can let us know. 😉
Yet another example of Musk's ignorance and lack of classical education. Does he not realize that if any planet is to be colonized by human beings, all natural materials will have to come from Earth? Where else will soil, seeds, sources of nutrition, and so much else, come from? They won't be able to be created on Mars, and if Earth is incinerated, good luck continuing the human race.
"Doggie"! Let us show this fake "department" zero respect for any way they characterize themselves. Thank you, Heather! Let us all call out the Bad Doggies!
A very interesting thing about Mars, being the fourth and last rocky/habitable planet (along with its moons), is that it’s just a hop, skip and jump from Mars to the asteroid belt, which is chock full of high-quality iron-nickel metal and all kinds of other great stuff that can be used to produce life support materials and rocket fuel, etc.! Check out books by John S. Lewis, especially “Mining the Sky” and “Rain of Iron and Ice”. Humans really could become a space-faring species, but not without all those readily-available resources, which as Lewis seems to suggest would first need to be gathered from areas closer to Earth, such as from comets and asteroids, and processed at a moon base - all doable with today’s technology. But it is also said that the brilliant Russian astrophysicist and rocket engineer Konstantin Tsiolkovsky noted (he didn’t invent) fourteen rules which would have to be met before we humans could establish a stable colony on Mars; this would include stopping all wars and warlike behavior on Earth! So that, in addition to solving the radiation exposure problem going to Mars, suggests that it will take a lot longer to do that than the (frequently prevaricating) Musk is telling us.
Check out Kelly and Zac Weinersmith's book, 'A City on Mars: Can We Settle Space, Should We Settle Space, and Have We Really Thought This Through?'. I promise you it's a hoot. We're not going to establish a colony on Mars so it's all going to be a colossal waste of money. One should be unconcerned if it's Musk's money only that is being wasted but it seems that it won't be - it will be yours as well.
It started with the appointment of Janet Petro as acting administrator (rather than waiting for Trump's first choice, billionaire and private astronaut and Musk ally Jared Isaacman, to be approved by the Senate). She immediately cancelled all DEI initiatives and sent a warning to staff that if they failed to disclose DEI co-workers within ten days it would result in “adverse consequences.”
The White House liaison with NASA is Darren Bossie, a wine expert and the brother of the president of Citizens United (remember them?). Then came the OPM 'deferred resignation' letter (the one based on the letter Musk sent to his Twitter employees). Petro told staff that “NASA should lean into this opportunity to maximize efficiencies” and “find new ways to work smarter.” 18,000 employees (one-fifth of the workforce) walked.
Michael Altenhofen, who spent fifteen years at SpaceX, is now a senior adviser to the NASA administrator. Riley Sennott, a Tesla tech worker is also a senior adviser. The Trump administration has shuttered two NASA offices and also stopped research on space pollution that might have led to new regulations on orbital satellites, like Musk's Starlink programme.
Morale is low at the agency as Space X looks certain to secure huge contracts from NASA. A manager told the New Yorker:
“A mistake made today might not come to fruition, so to speak, until an astronaut is on the surface of the moon in a few years. Do you want to be the Administration that killed astronauts?”
NASA and SpaceX are already interdependent - the intention is to make them synonymous.
Doge, musk, and starlink scare me! What are their motives? What is this to be used for? Is it targeted to those who adore the government and reward them? Will those that step outside that narrative be punished, imprisoned, or executed? What and why does musk need this data?
I believe we will be like Russian citizens. Only a few will have all the money and all the control. A Dictator like Putin. And I believe the communication will all be integrated using Star Link- already in the Whitehouse now a switch can connect to zi phones. That is why Trump helped Apple CEO. I would bet $ that Musk’s DOGE boys have integrated it through out all the Depts Project 2025 plans to use. We know he has it integrated in many areas of the FAA as well. Trump is fine with getting APLLE TARIFF $ in his pocket for removing phone tariff off of Apple. The people I believe are letting us down are MAGA Senate and House. They could stop this but will not for fear they will lose their job. Better to sell the country and us down the river rather than not have their power and control
Please bypass this as it is long regarding Musk’s shenanigans with his Star Link. Appreciate such useful information in the news letter yesterday re Musk’s integration of it into the FAA and knew he was continuing. He has been too quiet. I was familiar re Star Link integration iofvstarblink into FAA but hid it then bec he went in and implemented it without a contract and then saw that Verizon had a contract thru Biden. He went quiet while he pushed out Verizon.
The sec of Transportation has to know all this.
And now I read that Trump freed Apple phones from tariffs in China. Now I see the deal that the threesome of Trump and Musk and Apple CEO participated in. Because of Musk has worked a deal to integrate Star Link into every Apple IPhone just by turning on a switch in the phone. Espec at the IOS 18. So Apple paid Trump to free them up. Trump did not care about US consumers and Musk only cares about Star Link getting him $ to get to Mars? And Apple CEO kisses Trump’s ring to get his IPhones. Such corruption all directed to get Trump and his family and his Tech billionaires sinfully rich. Shame on them all.
It seems hard for me to believe that people don't know about or appreciate the existence of Cosmic Radiation, COSMIC RAYS. Cosmic Rays are very fast, high energy space particles of a simple molecular nature yet so prevalent and so powerful as prevent safe prolonged space travel outside of fantasies. There will be no colonies on Mars, scientists know this ergo the whole story must be a red herring, that is, a story to distract and dissemble their true plan and intent.

Isn't Mars closer to the Sun than the Earth ?!
Sorry, no. Mercury, Venus, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto (debatable about Pluto)
Maybe Neil DeGasse Tyson knows more!
Yes, I looked it up after I'd posted that and realized I was wrong.
Musk needs to go to Jail over his FAA-Starlink-Verizon debacle
If any plane goes down he needs to face murder charges
Better to sell the country and us down the river rather than not have their power and control
.
Is this where the human race is headed
