my father was in the 489th bomb group out of Halesworth. There is a museum dedicated to them. They even have a Facebook website. Every year they send photos of the memorial day ceremonies they conduct on site. they also send photos from the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial ceremonies with the cemetery dedicated to American soldiers. They impress me more than anything I’ve seen in this country. The gratitude of the English and French is immense. When I see Donald Trump chastising our European allies, it’s sickens me to think how ignorant he is and how badly that reflects on our company when people literally understand the sacrifice of American soldiers perhaps better in Europe than anyone in the United States except for those families who lost family members or had family members who risked their lives in World War II. it will be a historical tragedy should the United States turn its back on NATO and our European allies who suffered so much to learn the horrible lessons taught by the fascist wars and totalitarian dominance of the Soviet Union. Losing these memories and disregarding the critical links to freedom are at the heart of Trumpism. he is fascist America. And memorial day is a good time to remind us all of what is at stake.

I always love this piece. You express it so well. The piece of ourselves we leave behind, the lives we touch.
