Was that really done? Whenever I hear about deliberate poop smear, I always suspect it's something someone said to dehumanize that other.

I believe it was well documented and verified by the workers who had to clean the place up--who are mostly Black and people of color.

It is the ultimate sign of disrespect and degradation.

Guess I've been overprotected. I know autistic kids may do that, and prisoners driven nuts by their captivity, but otherwise I can't see the point. What would the equivalent be in words? (I don't mean to drag this out, I'm really curious.) Would it be something like this?: "You disrespect me, and so I degrade you by fouling your stuff!"

Obviously kids with autism, the mentally ill, those in a highly agitated emotional state may defecate and smear it., My perspective, otherwise, is that the person smearing fecal matter is saying: I disrespect you and who you are/what you represent. The person cleaning up the fecal matter, (whether it is the subject or another person) is being shown disrespect by the person defecating because obviously they lack any sense of consideration for others. Degradation: the person smearing their own fecal matter is taking part in an act of self degradation - seriously, how much self respect must someone lack to smear their own excrement anywhere?

Thanks, Daria. I appreciate your explanation. But what a bizarre thing to degrade yourself to make a point.

We could smell it all they way up here in MA. VT is farther away; lucky you, Becky!
