Thanks HCR for always clarifying the underlying components that are and have been used in our 250 yr history to stoke fear and hatred in order to mobilize the public into supporting you. Well it will not work with the majority of Americans. Please keep you eye and focus on Vance, Miller and Vought. They are truly pulling all these strings and are, I have come to believe, are pure evil. And I don’t say that lightly. They must be called out for they are younger and if DJT falls and we don’t take them with him the bad seeds will continue to fester and grow again.

Yes, you're absolutely right about Vance but Miller is taking orders from Vought who is mastermind of cleansing out people of color. Thinking in his delusional mind that he can purify this country for people who are White. That will never happen. This is a diverse country. Right now, we have a senile moron who doesn't know his left from right ruling this country. He on the verge of getting this country into another war that would be catastrophic. Eventually we are going to need every Marine and national guard to keep this country safe. Trump is spending all this money on immigration. Arresting immigrants, arresting people of color who are citizens and arresting Democratic officials or threatened them. Where does this situation end?

Heather, anyone confusing Senator Padilla with someone else or some mix up is ludicrous. This was done deliberately.

We must add Stephen Miller to the above, considering how the ease up about not going after, farmworkers, Hospitality, etc , next day was reversed. Stephen Miller is, I believe immensely influential in the oval office, especially since Orange man is easily distracted, or on ‘time out’ in his own little mental chaos chamber.

Heather Cox Richardson, you are an American treasure. You are a true American Matriot. Yes, it seems there is not yet the word "Matriot" in our lexicon. A "Matriot" is simply a woman who holds deeply the values of her nation and is a wholesale preserver of those intrinsic values that hold the fibers of the nation together. Your historical analysis, HCR, is consistent with the context of our times and dynamics. You help many of us to maintain a fair and honest perspective on the historic events of our times. I hear you, I feel you, I honor you and I love that I am able to share these amazing and astonishing times when the light at the end of the tunnel seems so distant and appealing, so thank you, Heather Cox Richardson, Matriotic American.

ICE employees are NOT above the law. It's common law enforcement behaviour to post PICTURES of the "bad guys".. ICE IS WRONG AND DANGEROUS. Americans deserve better than this corrupt agency.

Yes , you're absolutely right. A lot of protesters in several states, have push them out. One state recently was ILLINOIS. A group of protesters prevented ICE from taking a man away.

This how we fight back this how Democracy works. We are all in this together. United and strong.

I was struck by how strikingly the ICE body snatchers in LA were wearing face coverings and military garb, with pouches and gizmos, and of course, heavily armed. They look just like January 6 Insurrectionists, more specifically, the Proud Girls and the Zero Percenters. (Did I get that right?). So, how are we citizens supposed to know who these people really are? Who hired them and what’s their background? What is keeping Humpty from turning all federal law enforcement and military forces to enforce his dictatorship, starting with 15 democratic-majority major cities? Who ya gonna call? He wants to spark a real insurrection.

Yes , I agree. This is dangerous when citizens don't have protection from their government but their are certain amendments in the constitution that give us protection. The problem is , Trump overrules the constitution that he swore to protect when he was sworn in as president.

''The Masks of Tyranny: ICE's War on Democracy''

This is not about border security. It is about unmarked agents grabbing civilians off the streets and jailing elected officials, then lying about it. That should terrify every American.

Homeland Security’s claim that agents must hide their identities due to a 500 percent rise in assaults is based on cherry-picked numbers, deliberate misrepresentation, and zero proof. It is propaganda designed to justify a lawless paramilitary force. Their target is not crime. It is dissent.

Brad Lander was arrested for asking to see a warrant. Ras Baraka was charged for standing outside a detention center. Alex Padilla was handcuffed for asking a question. This is what authoritarianism looks like in plainclothes.

These arrests are political theater. They are not about justice, they are about control. The Trump administration is manufacturing enemies to distract from its failures and cling to power. By masking agents, they mask accountability.

The most dangerous part? This tactic is not new. The Klan did it. Fascists did it. And now, it is happening here.

America, wake up.

Harriet Tubman set up an underground railroad by herself. Eventually she received help from others who help her. She freed 700 hundred slaves to freedom. She also helped during the Civil War. She was an activist for freedom. We the people of this country can do the same thing by forming our own underground railroad. By setting up volunteers who could set up a way to warn people from being targeted.

We have the power to do this.

ICE agiprop goes way beyond gaslighting. It's the inversion and perversion of reality, of what's really going on. ICE ascribes to its victims what its own agents are doing, masking the policies, if you can call them "policies", terrorizing everybody not just the people in immigrant communities who they're sweeping up and disappearing.

Every time I read "federal judge" above or in any news report, I remember that if the "big beautiful budget bill" gets passed with the provision to limit Federal court contempt powers --- Section 70302 in H.R. 1 -- that the Senate Judiciary Committee just made worse by adding setting bond at, ostensibly, total court costs -- money most plaintiffs don’t have. (http://rollcall.com/, http://en.wikipedia.org/, http://wsj.com/), this Administration/regime will succeed in executing the administrative coup they've been planning, following Viktor Orban's playbook. Heather Cox Richardson, you reported that Senate Republicans already have once voted to not follow the Byrd rule — breaking the norm to follow the Senate parliamentarian's recommendations — with another piece of legislation. Clearly, Senate Republicans don't intend to follow the Byrd rule w/ the budget bill either. That provision would *retroactively* make every Federal court ruling meaningless, leaving us no recourse via the judicial system to fight for our rights. Also, "Congressional Republicans have called for banning or curtailing nationwide injunctions blocking government policies after key parts of Trump's agenda have been stymied by such court rulings. The House in April voted 219-213 along largely party lines in favor of the No Rogue Rulings Act to do so, but the Senate has not yet taken up the measure," according to Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-senate-republicans-seek-limit-judges-power-via-trumps-tax-cut-bill-2025-06-13/) and my ChatGPT query (https://chatgpt.com/share/6855a48f-5a38-8007-9afc-f743095891b5). Thank you for making accurate news accessible in the context of history to so many who don’t have time or capacity to get that perspective in any other way! You rock!

Our “new” reality is in part due to corruption that has become the norm in politics. It was fed by money flowing into the system after the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. Recently, the packing of SCOTUS has helped large corporations and the investor class. Their decisions have hurt working people, especially people of color and women.

If officials won’t show ID, how do we know they’re legitimate, with the power to arrest?

How do we know who to sue for false arrest?

So many MAGA republicans rode his coattails into office and are now terrified of opposing him. There was no need to get involved with Iran at this level but he couldn't resist getting a shot in. Now Bebe is waiting expectantly and its clear the US is the only agent with a big enough bomb. Nice work. It's hard to imagine a good outcome...easy to imagine very bad ones.
