Living in a left behind county for the past 50+ years, I have marveled at the way people reliably vote against their own economic self interests in favor of perceived cultural issues. It defies logic but it’s all about how politicians make them feel rather than assessing what politicians actually do.

Feelings. Stoking those feelings seems to be the media’s money-maker.

As president, Trump tried and failed to cut benefits drastically. Some Republicans wanted to replace the entire SSI and disability system. See. Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Trump, House Republican Cuts to SSI Would Harm Children With Disabilities, Sept. 18, 2017, Kathleen Romig and Guillermo Herrera. https://www.cbpp.org/research/social-security/trump-house-republican-cuts-to-ssi-would-harm-children-with-disabilities

“The Trump proposal would cut SSI by more than $8 billion over the next decade, shrinking benefits for roughly a quarter of a million children with disabilities by between 38 and 66 percent. It would also increase SSI’s administrative costs and improper payments”.

That's why we should be telling MAGATs "don't slit your own throat" by supporting any Republican.

As long as they crush the libs, they are all for it. At least that is what I see in my retired cop cohort. Christian Nationalism is what they long for, but they sure don't see what they're going to get along with it...

Yes but anecdotally, a lot are flipping. The mantra, "Trump hates dogs" eventually works. Check out pet sites on Facebook.

Ally, it’s like they see a vampire at the door, unable to cross the threshold, who tells them “I will suck the blood from all them libtards”…..”oh wonderful” is the reply “come on in!”.

Christian nationalism is a large part of that. Clearly having Satan promise paintings of white Jesus on classroom walls, a Bible on every student's desk, prayers before every school and government meeting, and no abortions ever, and that candidate will win in rural counties.

I left rural middle GA six years ago. I still have family and friends there, but I don't miss living there. I served my time.

FT 6 texted into GA. We didn't get as many negative replies as expected. Virtually non from Hotlanta.

Text Arcade is a super-fast text bank that costs $25 a ticket. 100% of the ticket price goes to funding your 1,400 texts. (To put this in perspective, it costs a volunteer $1,300 to send 1,400 postcards!) FT6 pays for about half of those texts in order to keep the ticket price reasonable.

Our human emotions are key to how we choose to live our lives given our personal experiences and circumstances. Understanding why and how different individuals feel differently should be be a basic tenet in early years education. Empathy training. Present day politicians, for the most part, still monitor their success or failure on simple economic statistics. They then election campaign with these GDP figures without ever testing them against the actual emotional well being or not these figures are delivering in individual every day lives. It is a structural blind spot in capitalist democracies. One that is exploited and manipulated by unscrupulous psychologically informed corporate media moguls working in the shadows for anonymous donors.

A measurement for the political delivering of individual and environmental well being is long overdue.
