My mom, 97 years old, has a new great-grandson born today! A Yankee Doodle Dandy! My niece and husband at Aviano AFB and their two other kids are doing fine! Best July Fourth ever!!!
Congratulations! My grandfather's birthday was the Fourth. As a child, I thought the family went all out for Independence Day, but in hindsight, I realize that the festivities were combined to celebrate my grandfather, too. One huge celebration!
The conflict the GOP promised to "end on day one," and then did everything to make sure it would continue by weakening Ukraine and Europe and strengthening the fascist regime in Moscow.
In the meantime, they're doing their utter best to install fascism in the US step by step, day by day, using the roadmap the Heritage Foundation developed together with neofascist Viktor Orban's Danube Institute.
This THE MOST SHAMEFUL JULY 4 ever!
The treason by one major US political party is utterly unprecedented.
Fascism expert Anne Applebaum detailed all the ways in which the GOP is currently destroying democracy in her Substack. Reading it may be the most useful thing to do, this weekend...
Thank you, Heather, for your diligent hard work. Also, thank you to Buddy for supporting your wife, our national treasure. Now for some comic relief...
''The Red Scare Gets a Spray Tan''
President Trump’s team has apparently decided that blaming immigrants has gotten a little stale, like a campaign hat left too long in a golf cart. So now comes the shiny new scapegoat: communists.
It makes sense, politically speaking. “Communist” is wonderfully vague. It can mean a labor organizer, a librarian, a college professor, a vegan with a tote bag, or anyone who thinks billionaires should pay taxes without needing a recovery weekend afterward.
Immigrants were useful villains for a while, but they are inconveniently human. People meet them. They work with them. They realize the guy fixing the roof is not secretly plotting to replace the Constitution with a taco truck.
Communists, on the other hand, are perfect. They can be anywhere, especially in places Trump voters already distrust, like universities, unions, public schools, and books with chapters.
The beauty of the communist panic is that nobody has to define it. Affordable health care? Communist. Student debt relief? Communist. Public libraries? Suspiciously communist. A teacher buying pencils for her classroom? Clearly the first stage of Marxist revolution.
Meanwhile, the actual agenda remains the same: distract working people while the rich keep vacuuming up the country. But “Look over there, a communist!” has more vintage flair than “Please ignore the donors behind the curtain.”
This is not politics as leadership. It is politics as a haunted house, where every room contains a new imaginary monster and the exit leads directly to a fundraising page.
Still, give the handlers credit. They know fear needs fresh packaging. Immigrants were last season’s panic. Communists are the reboot.
Coming soon: your neighbor’s recycling bin is a Bolshevik cell, and your library card has been radicalizing the suburbs.
Bravo! I needed some humor this morning!! And the beauty of "communist" attack: it can be a US citizen, an immigrant, ANY body. How convenient can you get????
I'd like to give special thanks to my 6-yr old grandson, who hates fireworks. They are so prevalent in his neighborhood that he has to sleep at my condo every 4th of July weekend. He is smart, amusing, independent, doesn't have language (but has tablet that does!) and is on the autism spectrum. He is also my constant source of joy. I am so thankful for him.
Mary Ann, I am glad your grandson has a safe place to be on the Fourth. I have come to hate this holiday. We put the dog in his thunder suit and he did get a little shaky, but nothing more. We had allclassical playing louder than usual. Also it did not go on as long as usual and not too many mortars. Maybe the price of gas to drive, probably to reservations, and the cost of the fireworks were deterrents.
Hoping we won't think about DJT's love of Russia, North Korea, and China and their dictators. Hoping we won't connect any dots--just believe whatever he says. Harkening back to McCarthyism. Hoping we won't think about that either. Many won't connect the dots!
This line has *everything* to do with thr fact that Democratic socialists have won a number of primaries. They are gearing up to scare the 💩 out of voters.
That's like injecting diabetes and obesity directly into your arteries...
In other countries, "we the people" voted for regulations that make poison like this illegal.
But hey, America is the "land of the free", and regulations limit the freedom of the wealthiest to get rich through poisoning America, so they are rejected as immoral...
My son and I watched Nathan's hot dog eating contest yesterday. America at it's finest. PS. None of the contestants were fat but whoowhee the crowd was a different story!!
I know it’s disgusting. Similar to swallowing gold fish in the 1930s or sitting on top of utility poles. From a medical point I wonder if it wrecks havoc with one’s intestines. Does he vomit later if he does he would like keep it a secret since this promotes Nathan’s hotdogs. The closest I came to dogs are to eat chicken dogs with low carbs. Once in a while I’ll eat one at Costco for a $1.49 plus a Diet Coke.
Happy 4th— I can’t imagine how shocked, saddened and at times overjoyed the Founding Fathers would be with all you and your team do almost every night in what has to be one of the most patriotic efforts this country has ever seen. You all are true national heroes.
She talks to them often on her visits through the stones. The graves are opaque and that realm is finite and well defined. She walks among them shoulder to shoulder picking up the burden where they left off. They know her well. They knew she would come. Hers is the connection that links us all in time. I sometimes wonder if that is the circle of life.
As he always does, Buddy provided a picture that brings a smile. Thanks to Buddy, thank you, and thanks to all the Americans who understand the true meaning of this day--many of us thanks to your tireless efforts. Enjoy your evening off!

Failure to follow the Epstein Transparency Act. We will have to see how this goes but the lawyers on Legal AF seem to thing that any one of these issues would suffice for license revocation.
(7) E. JEAN CARROLL CASES UPDATE. Trump had two civil jury trials in NYC concerning his defamation of Carroll about her accusation in her book that he had sexually assaulted her in a NYC Bergdorf Goodman Department Store dressing room. The juries found him guilty by 9-0 in both trials. In first trial he was found guilty of sexual abuse and defamation and Carroll was awarded $5 million plus interest. The judge noted that the jury was under NY’s narrow definition of rape as forcible penile penetration and so they found for sexual abuse rather than rape although most other jurisdictions use forcible penetration alone as the definition of rape. Trump appealed the case and the Federal Court of Appeals which unanimously upheld held the jury trial decision. Trump then appealed to the the SCOTUS which recently denied review of his writ of certiorari (a Court process to seek judicial review of a decision of a lower Court or government agency) which means he has to pay Carroll the $5 million plus interest (~$5,8 million).
After the first civil trial Trump continued to defame Carroll and a second trial awarded Carroll $83.3 million plus interest for his continued defamations. Trump’s appeal of that jury trial decision is still pending.
When the SCOTUS refused certiorari on the first case, Trump again defamed Carroll on Truth Social calling her accusations a “fake case” and “ridiculous”. It is not clear yet whether Carroll’s lawyers will seek further judgement against Trump for his continued defamation of Carroll but they have submitted it to petition the Manhattan Court judge for immediate release of the $5.8 million which is in a trust.

Your 781 word production may put to shame, methinks, an even longer one I'll post tomorrow to Schumer, Jeffries, and Martin. My deep frustration over the Democrat failure to mount a vigorous, comprehensive, "loyal opposition" counter to what Trump's turned America into finally got to me; I decided to make mine directly.to the 'top,' such as it is. Good on ya, mate.
Fred, this is a great collection, thx. I send links like this when republicans say the dems are just as bad and aren't doing a thing to help fight for democracy. I saw most of these and they are the best of the best.
Dr. Richardson, you are historian objectively writing the history of America’s darkest days. I forward every piece every day to my wife, children grandchildren and friends. If you haven’t already, I urge you to take a look at the work of Stacey Patton. Today’s piece is about a photo of a Black woman on a D.C. subway surrounded by a group of masked members of the right wing Patriot Front. Dr. Patton’s brief discussion of the photo says more about the experience of Black people in America than thousands of pages in scores of books. I appreciate both your work and Dr. Patton’s work. Two converging views of the contemporary American experiment based in two different cultural and scholarly approaches.
Wow. I definitely will look that up. We need to shame these white supremacists so eager to use violence in service to the current squatter demolishing the White House, our public institutions, the global economy and democratic alliances, and common sense and decency. It generally doesn't end well for dictators and tyrants.

Why are so many Americans fat?
Because the American diet is atrocious! Look at France and Japan for inspiration.
It was rhetorical I get it. I noted a friend brought beverages to the park and I looked on the ingredients label and said 50% sugar added. My god.
Incredible.
Because all it cares about, after 75 years of consumerism as the new religion, is whatever is the "biggest" and "greatest". Quantity over quality.
So now the guy sitting in the Oval Office says the word "greatest" every two seconds.
And yet, no one is happy...
My son and I watched Nathan's hot dog eating contest yesterday. America at it's finest. PS. None of the contestants were fat but whoowhee the crowd was a different story!!
I just watched it. Yuck.
For the life of me, I can't see why the local news keeps replaying this vulgarity. Makes me wretch every time.
Two reason I can discern; 1. It sells and everything is sold for a price and 2. It sells and anything that can be promoted is sold.
I watched part of it once YEARS ago. I think I was a young teenager. Maybe that's what turned me into a vegetarian...
I know it’s disgusting. Similar to swallowing gold fish in the 1930s or sitting on top of utility poles. From a medical point I wonder if it wrecks havoc with one’s intestines. I did too Jan! I am also reading The Price of Democracy by Vanessa Williams.
That was also my plan but things went away, so I'll be doing that today!
