Thank you for your attention to this impressive speech, indeed one for the history books. The fight for democracy must go on regardless of the outcome of this election and all we have yet to go through to get there. I value your "Letters" and books and videos to help us sort through the process. Persist!

HCR, thank you for this reading and for sharing the link to Jill Biden's gracious, concise note. Your 'Letters' and loyalty to President Biden have been inspiring as the Biden's will for ever cast a giant light on democracy: that is, for the people and by the people. Thank you Mr. President and Ms. Biden.

In these steely times I read history - specifically Last Hope Island by Lynn Olson. Its about Britain and the fighting people (Allies) in WW II. Knowing we eventually pulled together and defeated Hitler is both a nightly comfort and inspiration.

Now is our time to act together and deepen democracy.

Biden’s speech was truly inspiring and reminded me that there still are people who are not just in it for themselves, that the high ideals of our Constitution and what we should strive to be as a democracy still live on. It’s easy to become cynical when you have people the likes of Trump, Vance, McConnell, MTG, etc… constantly grabbing the spotlight.

We, as a nation, have high ideals we often fail to meet and so many national shames and embarrassments, from slavery, to Jim Crow, to women not having the right to vote until 1920, to not having a woman as president to this very day. Perhaps a few of these shames can be set right by electing Kamala Harris to the presidency. At least I hope.

If Joe Biden could have delivered this speech as well as HCR, it would not have needed to be written . Thank you Heather and thank you President Joe Biden.

Would that President Biden was able to deliver this excellent speech as well as you. They say that George Washington had delivery problems at times. Grateful that the written words live on for both men.

Biden didn’t quit, he didn’t give up he merely passed on the baton to a loyal servant of justice and determination!

Biden said I revere this country, I must unite my country by saving our democracy! What great respect and love for America he continues to display!

I committed to an Administration that reflects the make up of this country!

There’s a time and a place for younger, newer voices!

He committed to continuing to lower costs and call out extreme hate and violence.

He’ll call for continuing to investigate the Supreme Court, build NATO and strength out NATO alliances.

Kings and rulers don’t rule America, we the people do it together!

I remember a few days ago HCR mentioned that something hit Trump's ear. She didn't say a bullet. Now the FBI would like to question Trump. Was it shrapnel from the teleprompter? Is that what hurt the police officers in front of him as well? Why have they found eight shell casings but no bullets? (Daily Beast).

Quite a speech. And good to hear you read t

However, one quibble only “the most powerful idea in the history of the world”?

A bold statement. As well as inaccurate.

I'm relieved that President Biden will use the rest of his term to ensure we do not lose our freedoms and our democratic way of life. I wonder though if he realizes the extent to which Mr. Trump will do anything and everything, overt, covert, legal, illegal and with use of force to acquire power. Mr. Trump has no choice because if he loses, he goes to prison if found guilty, he loses his fortune, his brand and his relevance. He becomes the loser he has dreaded his entire life trying not to be. The Supreme Court recently gifted Mr. Trump with immunity from prosecution for official acts as president. But it is Joe Biden who is president now, not Donald Trump. Is President Biden prepared to wield this power unreservedly and judiciously to protect the Constitution and defend the American people from those who have shown they would destroy them? Do people deserve the protection of the same Constitution that they have tried and still relentlessly try to destroy? Will President Biden continue to play by rules dictated by polite society when Mr. Trump and his enablers go for the jugular in their quest to acquire absolute power? In normal times the answer would be yes to both questions. But these are not normal times. For instance, making new laws to bring back the corrupt Supreme Court to the good graces of the people is very desirable, but it will happen only after the elections. If Mr. Trump wins this election, the American people will have lost forever this opportunity since we know only too well that America will fall into dictatorship and crony justice will prevail instead of the the rule of law. I commend President Biden for passing the torch to a younger generation, and to focus on protecting our civil rights and our form of government. But is President Biden prepared to use the power that the Constitution confers on him, and recently confirmed by this Supreme Court, to protect this country while there is still time?
