Loren, I am reading a very lengthy tome right now called Lower than the Angels about Christianity and sex. The author addresses first the first century milieu when Christianity began which was completely patriarchal. I would agree with you in terms of what happened, but I think it would have happened anyway without Christianity which for many rulers was simply a useful tool. Part of what we are seeing now is white men, using Christianity as one of their tools, seeking to return things to how they were not too long ago where only they have status.

Exactly. Every "faith" seems to start with a premise of good behavior to each other. Then some of the preachers and politicians take over and twist it to their own selfish, ambitious, crowd controlling purposes. I find few exceptions to this.

It's a fallacy adhered to by many Christians who attempt to defend their religious beliefs by insisting that members of their ranks who fail to be decent are not "true Christians." That fallacy is frequently on display here, touted by both believers and sympathizers.
When the overwhelming majority of products produced by a consumer brand fail to meet consumers' expectations, we conclude that the brand is unreliable and not worth buying. It's a "bad brand" which usually goes out of business.
Throughout history, the overwhelming majority of people claiming to be Christians have committed atrocities, either en masse or individually. Michele2, while what is contained in the Epstein Files regarding what tRump has done in the past may be heinous beyond words, it is what tRump is doing NOW that is truly insane, violates both national and international law and threatens the entire world order which requires his immediate removal from power! If enough Republicans fail to join with the Democrats to stop and remove this shambolic shell of a human from power, the world wreckage will be vastly more traumatic than anything to be found in the Epstein Files. We need to keep our brains and our actions firmly rooted in the present danger.

Avelo airlines has finally stopped their deportation flights thanks to the protesters and their long and well-organized fight. There has been recent rulings in some states against giving voter data to Trump regime. And we have the very, very serious global concerns, as you point out.... Yes, dealing with the perps one at a time is the only feasible option. Anyone who voted for Trump committed a crime against humanity. Unfortunately, there is no feasible way to punish the 77 million of our fellow Americans who committed that crime, but there is a way to punish every politician who commits that crime every day by opposing the removal of Trump from office. The punishment of those politicians cannot take place until the November election, and to have any hope in hell of getting it done then, every able citizen on the side of justice and the rule of law will be needed in the effort.
Congress passed a law requiring full release of the Epstein papers. The Trump junta refused to obey the law, and Congress has no way to enforce it, so it appears to me that Congress has done what it can in this matter. There are also ongoing efforts to use civil actions against perps revealed in the documents, so the people are doing what they can to expose and punish wrongdoing. Removal from office is, I think, the only even remotely feasible way to stop the Trump junta from continuing its lawless behavior. It’s on Congress to do that. Trump cannot stop them. His only way out would be a full military coup. Not impossible for him, maybe, but more difficult than what he has done so far.

Lady, at least six months ago, I came up with most of the plot for a novel. I proposed a world in perhaps 2050. Most nations have signed onto climate control as the world's weather and sea rise wiped out coasts and created havoc. Even China and Russia reluctantly joined in as somehow, even they realized it would be the end of the world.
However, the USA, now under perhaps POTUS Barron Trump, REFUSED to join. The US has abandoned all EPA regulations, and spews pollutants into the air and water. The southwest US has become totally unlivable, with the exception of some people who trace their linage to the Native Americans from hundreds of years before.
The populace has become two classes: ultra ultra wealthy who live in climate controlled biospheres, and what are the now "mud sills' forced to live nearby the domes. Their "pay" in a digital currency world is the ability to work inside for 12 hour shifts, and get just enough food biscuits and clean water to live. They do the dirty jobs, and also manufacture/craft the luxury goods for the uber-rich. There is only a very few "military" type (the "offspring of ICE") to control the mud sills.
But as the US continues to ignore climate, the other nations decide for their own survival, and that of humanity, the US must be eliminated. At a round table, all other countries vote on taking the US out, even the upper rich, as they are the problem. The vote is unanimous, and the US is attacked on both borders and each coast, with the thought that the total elimination of humans will allow the land to heal over time, as will the air and sea. It is crisis.
Picture Mad Max--and who will survive? The world nations send in their troops whose goal is extermination, just as the white hunters shot the buffalo for the mere sport of it! The wealthy dome-dwellers THINK they will be protected and evacuated, but are shocked to discover, they have been lied to and they also are killed.
I've thought--how would this end? I've considered various endings, and the one that seems most logical to me is that even the extermination of all of the US citizens isn't enough--the climate damage is too great. Europe, Asia, Australia--their populations drop rapidly. What is left is a mere fraction of humans; nomads who roam on all the continents. And will the world population dropped to a few million, thus the world starts over again.

She is quite intelligent person, in her late 70s. She said she gets "all the news I need" from various traditional print and broadcasts.

We actually need spring cleaning at the Orange house. The infection is gangrenous and soon will be fatal. We need an emergency election replacing the entire office of the presidency along with the compromised Supreme Court. Once I was asked to remodel a home. The task was impossible. We are being distracted from the real tasks that need to be done in the order shown

Elect veto-proof majorities in the House and Senate at the midterms in opposition to Trump, the bigger election draw. It will be very hard to get supermajorities because of the previous redistricting. and voter restrictions already enacted in red states.
Impeach and CONVICT Trump starting in January 2027 when there are enough votes to do it. Prepare the case starting now.
Vance assumes the presidency but has his power curtailed by the supermajorities in Congress, and we begin to reform the executive branch and enact legislation to shore up democracy and undo Trump’s executive orders. Vance’s immunity cloak will protect him from impeachment no matter what he tries to do while in office.

It will be harder to impeach Vance. He kept his nose clean in the two years he was a Senator. Thiel paid him upfront during his hedge fund days, a very smart move. As VP, he has no power to do anything. It all vests in Trump. As President, he is covered by the SCOTUS immunity cloak. And he will be competent and obedient to the oligarchs and not batshit crazy.
The ONLY path forward and way to constrain a Vance who gains incumbency without election is through veto-proof majorities in both houses. And even then Vance will still have the option of governance by executive order, with a compliant SCOTUS expanding executive power with their rulings.

Yep you’ve nailed it. While Vance has tried to keep his nose clean, he’s backed by Thiel. Evident with Thiel’s $15 million for Vance’s acquisition of his Senate seat. Vance is another nut entirely, he’s slicker and smarter and can morph well like a chameleon. He will step into his own sewage in time.
The biggest challenge is the states - gerrymandering the districts, purging voters from the rolls frequently. That everyone should check you’ve not been erased. Once gone each state has their own docs needed to prove you are who you are to get back on the voting rolls.
It’s difficult for some but have to pay attention in our own state’s elected officials mucking up our voices in voting.

The Greenlanders and Danes should get large hoses and get ready to do what the Minnesotans have done on a small scale to ICE, tossing water balloons at them. Strange as that seems, it is true. Just re-checked it to make sure I had not mis-read the information. The basic difference between the Rio and N.A.T.O. treaty structures in that the Rio pact defines of security zone of the Western Hemisphere into Greenland falls; the N.A.T.O. treat specifies allies to be protect. The Rio treaty came into effect in 1947 or1948 when the borders in the Americas may have been open to change; it also basically embodied the idea of the Monroe Doctrine of a zone of American leadership. The signatories to N.A.T.O. had settled borders.

It takes 20 R Senators and 15 R Congressmen to consistently vote with all Democrats so there are 2/3 veto-proof majorities in both chambers.
Barring that, I personally would not move against Trump until after the midterms because I fear that an oligarch minion like Vance is more dangerous and more likely to prevent free and fair elections than Trump.

Thanks, Ned. I celebrated here at the Route 66 Spirit of America Museum by showing my favorite film, "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" (1939, starring Jimmy Stewart). Its story of corruption throughout Washington (except for the Washington Press Corps) has a lot of meaning for today. It even shows that the Press in Jimmy Stewart's character's home state is corrupt!
PS Jimmy Stewart was a conservative Republican who was great friends with Ronald Reagan. But he was also life-long friends with liberal Democrat Henry Fonda. Loren, I am reading a very lengthy tome right now called Lower than the Angels about Christianity and sex. The author addresses first the first century milieu when Christianity began which was completely patriarchal. I would agree with you in terms of what happened, but I think it would have happened anyway without Christianity which for many rulers was simply a useful tool. Part of what we are seeing now is white men, using Christianity as one of their tools, seeking to return things to how they were not too long ago where only they have status.

I heard today that the King of Norway sent a letter to all subjects telling them that in war their personal property can be appropriated by the government. My friend pointed out that Scandinavia is usually ahead of Europe on these things. We will probably have to wait until after the meeting on Thursday.

The Epstein Class
Congress passed a law requiring full release of the Epstein papers. The Trump junta refused to obey the law, and Congress has no way to enforce it, so it appears to me that Congress has done what it can in this matter. There are also ongoing efforts to use civil actions against perps revealed in the documents, so the people are doing what they can to expose and punish wrongdoing. Removal from office is, I think, the only even remotely feasible way to stop the Trump junta from continuing its lawless behavior. It’s on Congress to do that. Trump cannot stop them. His only way out would be a full military coup. Not impossible for him, maybe, but more difficult than what he has done so far.
Impeach by all means, but this time with a comprehensive strategy. We so need one.

Lady, at least six months ago, I came up with most of the plot for a novel. I proposed a world in perhaps 2050. Most nations have signed onto climate control as the world's weather and sea rise wiped out coasts and created havoc. Even China and Russia reluctantly joined in as somehow, even they realized it would be the end of the world.
However, the USA, now under perhaps POTUS Barron Trump, REFUSED to join. The US has abandoned all EPA regulations, and spews pollutants into the air and water. The southwest US has become totally unlivable, with the exception of some people who trace their linage to the Native Americans from hundreds of years before.
The populace has become two classes: ultra ultra wealthy who live in climate controlled biospheres, and what are the now "mud sills' forced to live nearby the domes. Their "pay" in a digital currency world is the ability to work inside for 12 hour shifts, and get just enough food biscuits and clean water to live. They do the dirty jobs, and also manufacture/craft the luxury goods for the uber-rich. There is only a very few "military" type (the "offspring of ICE") to control the mud sills.
But as the US continues to ignore climate, the other nations decide for their own survival, and that of humanity, the US must be eliminated. At a round table, all other countries vote on taking the US out, even the upper rich, as they are the problem. The vote is unanimous, and the US is attacked on both borders and each coast, with the thought that the total elimination of humans will allow the land to heal over time, as will the air and sea. It is crisis.
Picture Mad Max--and who will survive? The world nations send in their troops whose goal is extermination, just as the white hunters shot the buffalo for the mere sport of it! The wealthy dome-dwellers THINK they will be protected and evacuated, but are shocked to discover, they have been lied to and they also are killed.
I've thought--how would this end? I've considered various endings, and the one that seems most logical to me is that even the extermination of all of the US citizens isn't enough--the climate damage is too great. Europe, Asia, Australia--their populations drop rapidly. What is left is a mere fraction of humans; nomads who roam on all the continents. And will the world population dropped to a few million, thus the world starts over again.
This is not the genre that this aspiring novelist writes in, so I offer the plot to any novelist/screenwriter, whatever, out there who wants it!

She is quite intelligent person, in her late 70s. She said she gets "all the news I need" from various traditional print and broadcasts.

Not that I think that Joe Biden was always wise, but he seemed like the first president in recent memory to decidedly distancing himself from "The Reagan Revolution", with some visible, laudable results. We actually need spring cleaning at the Orange house. The infection is gangrenous and soon will be fatal. We need an emergency election replacing the entire office of the presidency along with the compromised Supreme Court. Once I was asked to remodel a home. The task was impossible. The compromise was to build a better domicile entirely. We left the old one intact until the new one was moved in to three months later. I don’t think that is asking too much as it makes complete sense. But I’m not a politician or a lawyer just a plain old uncomplicated voice in the wilderness. Like any common man or woman we have to do what makes the best sense going forward.

It will be harder to impeach Vance. He kept his nose clean in the two years he was a Senator. Thiel paid him upfront during his hedge fund days, a very smart move. As VP, he has no power to do anything. It all vests in Trump. As President, he is covered by the SCOTUS immunity cloak. And he will be competent and obedient to the oligarchs and not batshit crazy.
The ONLY path forward and way to constrain a Vance who gains incumbency without election is through veto-proof majorities in both houses. And even then Vance will still have the option of governance by executive order, with a compliant SCOTUS expanding executive power with their rulings.

The biggest challenge is the states - gerrymandering the districts, purging voters from the rolls frequently. That everyone should check you’ve not been erased. Once gone each state has their own docs needed to prove you are who you are to get back on the voting rolls.

The basic difference between the Rio and N.A.T.O. treaty structures in that the Rio pact defines of security zone of the Western Hemisphere into Greenland falls; the N.A.T.O. treat specifies allies to be protect. The Rio treaty came into effect in 1947 or1948 when the borders in the Americas may have been open to change; it also basically embodied the idea of the Monroe Doctrine of a zone of American leadership. The signatories to N.A.T.O. had settled borders.

Thanks, Ned. I celebrated here at the Route 66 Spirit of America Museum by showing my favorite film, "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" (1939, starring Jimmy Stewart). Its story of corruption throughout Washington (except for the Washington Press Corps) has a lot of meaning for today. It even shows that the Press in Jimmy Stewart's character's home state is corrupt!
PS Jimmy Stewart was a conservative Republican who was great friends with Ronald Reagan. But he was also life-long friends with liberal Democrat Henry Fonda. Definitely, trump should face the consequences of his actions as the two other guys did. His whole team of enablers and ideologues should follow the same path. No exceptions.
It probably serves -- in his rancid brain -- a multitude of small purposes: cover for Putin, distraction from Epstein, "proof" of his strength and prowess, and just flooding the zone with shit, which they love doing to keep us scattered and witless.
It continues to feels like the entire Rube Goldberg enterprise is going to just come tumbling down any minute, but in the meantime -- as so many grimly note -- it may well get worse before it gets better. Stay strong and do not give into despair. That gets you nothing.

Made it to Lewiston and heard someone thought ICE was at Home Depot I suspect in Auburn. I did get a whistle this morning but need a bit more (like recharging my hand warmers), to start showing up if ICE is trying to start stuff near here. They had an ICE Hotline number (for observers) but I couldn't make out the number. When I tried looking on line there were pages and pages of ICE Hotlines intended to report any real or imaginary persons of interest(?) for this new suspected criminal infested ICE force.
