For this sequestered 75 year old, your writing brings hope to temper my pessimism. I’m counting on the youth to undo what my generation screwed up, but they need the foundation of understanding you bring in this world of screaming headlines. Thank you.

Barb, thank you from a homebound 74-year-old in Virginia. Heather’s fascinating and insightful analysis helps me stay informed for discussions with my grandchildren in college.
Yes! Thank you for making this point so eloquently. Each generation makes gains and makes mistakes. And, of course, no generation of people is monolithic. The boomer generation did not single-handedly “screw things up”!!! What we are experiencing now is the culmination of centuries of mistreating the earth and mistreating our fellow humans. There is enough blame to go around. As we begin a new year, let’s build on all the good things we have achieved! Let’s start by figuring out how to persuade our fellow Americans to get vaccinated against COVID. (The rapid development of COVID vaccines is one of our great achievements—accomplished by scientists from multiple generations.). Okay, I’ve hammered on this enough. Happy New Year!
Barb, I am a sequestered 69 year old who feels the same. I used to be so actively involved, contacted legislators constantly (which actually I still am doing). Young people don't seem to have the same drive that we did. Keep trying to get my kids to step up.

Barb, no one could have said it better. You speak on behalf of all of us in your age group and sequestered situation. Many thanks!
There has been and is continuing to be amazing work by all generations. Some amazingly horrific. Some amazingly glorious.

Barb, 69 in Pennsylvania here. I'm right there with you.
Barb, thank you. You said it better than I could!
Wow! I'm with you. To a new year ahead!
Well said.

Hello, all hope is not lost … my college age grandchildren are very active and have worked on campaigns since high school. ❤️
Oh they do. I worked with some great young folks on the Bernie Sanders campaign
Me too! 73 and deeply concerned, but infinitely more informed since I started reading these columns!
Not a sequestered 75 year old - benefits of not having to take our shoes and coats off at the airport now - but you said it so well. Thank you!
