One of the tragedies of life, of aging, of learning -- it seems -- is that the world is full of histories like the Pine Ridge Massacre. So much pain, so much long-lived hatred. It's hard to believe that there's enough good in the world to justify persevering, hoping. And, yet, there is and always has been the kind of good that Prof. Richardson shows in her dedication to recording and making relevant history. Good takes strength. Thank you, Prof. Richardson, for your example.

Oh, gosh, I can almost feel you pain through these pages. I had trouble reading about these massacres, I can’t even imagine living with these folks and having to write about them. But history will be glad you did, they all need to be remembered.
