''Epstein Files Released, Transparency Reported Missing, Sharpie Found at Scene''

Transparency was not denied. It was mocked.

(Satire)

For one shining moment, Congress passed a law that read like it was written by someone who had finally lost patience.

Release everything. Set a deadline. No hiding behind embarrassment. No protecting reputations. No pretending “political sensitivity” is a national security doctrine. Thirty days. All records. Period.

It was the legislative equivalent of locking the exits.

And then the Trump administration showed up with a blindfold, a fog machine, and a box of industrial-strength markers.

When the deadline arrived, the Department of Justice unveiled its long-awaited disclosure, which turned out to be less a release and more a performance piece titled Absence in Black Ink. Journalists were treated to page after page of documents so fully redacted they could double as modern art. One hundred pages of nothing. Not metaphorical, nothing. Literal nothing.

If transparency were a beverage, this was an empty cup held up proudly while insisting it was very refreshing.

The law required survivor interviews. Gone. Internal charging decisions. Missing. Communications about evidence being destroyed, misplaced, or concealed. Apparently misplaced again. Photographs of certain powerful men with Epstein. Briefly visible, then spirited away like a magician’s assistant who knew too much.

What remained was not evidence but suggestion. Grainy photos from decades past, carefully selected to point attention in one direction only. A random fundraiser image slipped into the pile to imply guilt by proximity, involving people and children who had nothing to do with Epstein at all. It was less investigative journalism and more a ransom note assembled by Twitter.

This was not disclosure. This was narrative laundering.

Even better, at least sixteen files quietly vanished from the Justice Department website after being posted. No explanation. No notice. Just gone. Including materials that inconveniently showed Trump with Epstein. The files did not fail to load. They fled.

This is what happens when transparency is managed by people who think accountability is a branding problem.

The administration insists it is still releasing more material later, which is Washington speak for “we hope you get tired before we do.” Deadlines, like laws, are apparently optional now. Congress passes them. The executive branch squints at them. Democracy shrugs.

And let us pause for the truly remarkable part. This was not a betrayal of critics. This was a betrayal of believers.

MAGA voters were promised the Epstein files like a holy relic. The truth would come out. The elites would be exposed. The swamp would drain itself on live television. Instead, they got a blackout, a few Clinton photos from the Bush administration, and a disappearing website.

That is not incompetence. That is contempt.

Survivors asked for accountability and were handed redactions. Congress asked for compliance and was handed excuses. Voters asked for transparency and were handed theater. Everyone was told to be grateful.

The law explicitly forbade withholding documents due to embarrassment or political sensitivity. The administration responded by withholding documents in the most politically sensitive and embarrassing way possible, while insisting that this somehow still counted.

If the goal was to restore trust, the effect was the opposite. If the goal was to demonstrate respect for the law, the message was crystal clear. Laws are suggestions. Oversight is annoying. And the public is expected to clap anyway.

In the end, the Epstein Files Transparency Act worked perfectly. It did not expose Epstein. It exposed power.

It showed us exactly how an administration behaves when cornered by a law it cannot spin. It blacks out the page, deletes the file, blames the clock, and hopes the audience mistakes darkness for disclosure.

Transparency was not denied.

It was mocked.

My hat is off to you Mr. Corthell. I hope you are young enough to be around to write my eulogy. But I suspect that you have been writing for a long long long time. There was a long silence at my kitchen table, finally broken by the sound of two gnarly worn hands clapping.

Todd Blanche, Deputy AG, appears to be now leading the administration response and he claims that files have not yet been published or heavily redacted out of "an abundance of caution" in order to protect victims. He accuses those who want full transparency of not caring about victims.

However, the lawyer for many of the survivors of Estein's abuse, Gloria Alldred, has told CNN that the recent disclosure has not sufficiently protected victims' identities.

It also doesn't appear possible that taking legal action to force compliance with the law is likely to be successful because the DoJ under Bondi will not prosecute. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

In short, unless this regime is politically hobbled in next years' midterms, nothing can be done about this and Trump can continue on his merry way defying Congress and the courts.

And Justice Laughed

The deadline came and went—and Justice laughed!

The Act for Epstein Files Transparency

ignored almost in its entirety.

No guise of doing all that they were tasked

to finish by a deadline hard and fast.

Exceptions to its mandate? Precious few.

But what would Bondi and her cohorts do?

Tender reams of paper, mostly black.

They’re treating Congress members with contempt.

Delay! Delay! the Order of the day

from Him on High—who’s hardly mentioned twice.

What is this crude charade? Where’s the attempt

to meet the terms they openly evade?

It’s time they’re made to pay a fitting price.

The thing that caught my attention was the position that PPP coordinator, Mike Johnson, took, that he didn't want to create 'victims' through a "guilt by association." He didn't seem to understand that this is one of those few situations where there is LITERALLY A GUILT BY ASSOCIATION if it is in the context of being in the files and that it cuts across party lines, socio-economic status, and includes being the signature on the bottom of a file by law enforcement and DOJ that never came to light.

Mike is a loser. A weak and power hungry, pip sq-eek dirty politician and phony Christian. When Trump was on trial for fraud, he harmonized in public attacking the judge and jury. Guilt by absolute lies did'nt bother him at all, as the death threats cascaded onto the judge and the court!

Tell me what you REALLY think! LOL! You should check out James Talarico's recent sermon against the performatively religious that Mike Johnson represents (YouTube: "James Talarico Delivers Sermon Against Christian Nationalism"), though I hesitate to give you any more ammunition on the subject. haha! I'm not much on institutional religions at all, and am not Christian, but I thought Talarico's sermon was articulate and well-delivered, so worth listening to. He articulated my own thoughts better than I ever could have. You may appreciate it.

Talarico is a balanced Christian soul. Johnson is a man whose character has no definition. Whatever one calls him fails to categorize him badly enough. The Trump cabal et all exceeds our worst admonitions. Even the Pallid bust of Pallas fails in description. Poe would search the darkest regions of human despair, despairing of an apt description. We are truly in the nether region of human indecency. This group of political cronies and financiers is destined to end badly. That’s the thing they don’t understand yet. They will end in the quagmire of their own creation.

Q--Which Federal agency prosecutes violations of Federal law?

A--The Justice Department, the same agency whose head just violated the law.

Untrump's avatar

Congress can subpoena! Drag both Bondi and Blanchett in front of congress and televise it!

Untrump's avatar

Congress? under Mike Johnson there is no Congress. the law ? Mike Johnson answers to Trump, not the law. He is a prime example of the low life lapdog hypocrites that abuse power at the expense of the people, for Trump. Simply put, The DOJ is breaking the law without consequence. They better hope their dictator saves them, because otherwise they will pay the price of their criminal acts. As for Trump, refer to his personal history and "locker room " talk. That is enough to get the sense of this evil malicious old man.

And alongside no Congress, no law is the no court of last resort, i.e., SCOTUS. Two-thirds of that "body" are totally corrupt enemies domestic. Harsh? There was a time when I'd have thought so. That time has passed. Perhaps rename SCOTUS Donald Trump's Judicial Sycophants.

but so what? Immunity. No consequences. No Justice.

This is an attempt to make it all go away. Just like Trump's pardon of the traitors of Jan 6! Our job is to keep this in the face of the public. Ask your Congressman what they will do to punish these criminals! Let Trump pardon them all. It will shine more light on his despicable and hidden past! Be loud!

I really hope that if/when the Republicans lose their hold on congress that the violation of of law requiring the release of the Epstein files is the one they go after him and his cronies for. Yes, there's a cornucopia of violations to choose from, but this is the one a lot of MAGA will get on board with. it's the best chance of an actual conviction.
