Thanks, Heather.

I operate with Trump on the correct assumption that when his lips move, he is lying to the American public. It' just that simple. Nothing, absolutely nothing, that man utters is truthful and therefore he is not with a second of my time. To see him on the television screen literally makes me wince at how easily he lies to us all.

I can’t listen. He’s a lunatic

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Altho HCR quoted Trump he wasn’t heard.

No one except the totally bamboozled MAGAs can listen to him.

— 36% of Americans are MAGA … and even they are beginning to express doubts.

Mary Kay Marrello's avatar

The majority of Americans are NOT impressed with Trump..

He “Aced” medical tests…. ( did he study hours for these tests)?

Only 36% approve on his presidency 61% Disapprove!

His rally speech went on for over 2 (boring and gloating) hours where he bragged about stopping EIGHT wars and claimed to have grown the best economy ever …. Well maybe in his fantasies! While he’s taken no action on healthcare he continually talks about “ his plan”. My importantly Americans want tax cuts…. But NOT for the wealthy

This is cope, unfortunately. If you look at the most recent Ipsos poll it shows Dems and Republicans tied in the generic ballot. Heather quoted one NORC poll which has always been the most favorable to democrats and was wildly off in 2024. I would look at the more reputable polls which seem to show trump is really gaining popularity lately

Tunker's avatar

That's not actually true. Trump is starting to really gain in the polls again. It's not looking good for democrats right now if you look outside that one outlier NORC poll.

Heather reminds us of our history, humanity, and human rights. We must continue to resist the fascists. I wrote a song for Heather, inspired by her wisdom and bravery: https://democracydefender2025.substack.com/p/heather-cox-richardson-song-letters

Sorry, the Professor often ignores the more egregious aspects of US history. The false narrative that the US has a history of defending humanity and human rights belies the US history of overthrowing democratically elected governments, see Angola, Chile, the Dominican Republic for example, and giving citizenship or protection to known Nazis, in order to create NASA or assist the CIA, Klaus Barbie and Werner van Braun are just two infamous examples. Professor Cox has a poor history of honestly telling the truth.

''The Pencil Shortage Economy''

How America Was Asked to Save the Economy by Giving Up Dolls, Pencils, and Any Remaining Sense of Reality

President Donald J. Trump has embarked on a nationwide tour to reassure Americans that Republicans are laser-focused on affordability. This reassurance arrives at a delicate moment, namely one in which almost nobody believes him.

The pitch is simple. Prices are high, but do not worry. You are doing better than you have ever done. If that feels false, it is because you are spoiled by an excess of consumer goods, most of them apparently school supplies... https://essayx.substack.com/p/the-pencil-shortage-economy

🔹 Stephen Colbert did an excellent roast/expose on this last nite.

Trump has never lacked for anything (besides brains & honesty) and after living 79 years in a bubble he cannot relate to any except ‘the ELITE’ - who he promised to excise from power, but instead rolled out the red carpet for.

Russell John Netto's avatar

He used to belong to the Manhattan socialite elite and now he's been cast out. His convivial meeting with Mamdani suggests that he still yearns to return to the old life.

I love the musical lead in! I get both the listening and the read versions and they are a great help to us older folk who have vision problems and plenty of time to think it through twice.

Brazil flirts with being called a sh*thole country too - in Trump's book - but unlike the US, Brazil takes the correct response to an attempted coup - lock up the leader of the insurrectionists. Brazilians could be forgiven if they referred to Trump and his country as "esse lugar é uma merda."

Trump and Congress (all of them) are completely wrong with their ideas of health insurance. The ACA is fine for a few million folks, but most citizens cannot afford the so-called health care private insurance companies offer. The richest country in the world needs a true healthcare for all system like all other major countries have.

So, if a state ends up with a one party congressional delegation then when that party is no longer in charge of the US House or US Senate, that state has less influence because it has almost no one to call to help with matters.

That’s a lot to give up for a Lame Duck president..

Go, Hoosiers! (indiana-ers)

Dale K. Nichols's avatar

Two more political poems ripped from the headlines and inspired by Heather’s post…

Hoosier Daddy?

Heritage Action and Donald Trump

are threatening Indiana

for Republicans’ failure to cowardly bow

to their party’s top banana.

The GOP majority

in the bright red Hoosier state

has refused to cave to repeated demands

to gerrymander the gates

of Congress to flip its two blue seats—

the only two of nine—

by redrawing in indefensible fashion

the state’s congressional lines.

Trump first said he’d primary

the holdouts from their seats,

and now to cut off its funding, Heritage

Action has claimed to repeat.

Extortion, pure and simple, outrage

rises from every side.

Perhaps at last Trump’s crossed a line

behind which he cannot hide.

Of Pencils, Dolls and Steel

For those of us now feeling the pinch

in paying the monthly rent,

here are some heartfelt, helpful hints

from our nation’s President.

Give up pencils, he recommends.

In China kids get thirty-seven.

Two is enough, so why buy more

to teach your kids their lessons?

And dozens and dozens of dolls for your daughter?

When two or three is enough?

If your little brat doesn’t like it,

just tell her to suck it up.

Steel is all you really need

this year beneath the tree.

That and tons more gratitude

for three more years of me.

USA TODAY — Trump is horrendously unpopular.

— Even MAGA is catching on. | Opinion

In the most recent Gallup poll, Trump's approval rating was at 🔻36% and “his disapproval rating was at 60%. For context, that low approval rate matched President Joe Biden's after his terrible debate.

Trump is the only person who can lead MAGA. After him, it's over.

Trump has always been the singular head of the MAGA snake. He is the only figure who could pull the past 10 years of con artistry off, like a uniquely evil P.T. Barnum.”

Cortney Strother's avatar

The only problem with that theory is that there is no "singular head of the snake". Rather, it is a hydra with MANY heads. The groundwork for the magachi has already been laid, where a new serpent head will emerge once the PDFile has expired. This is why there is not a singular resolution to the crisis the country finds itself in.

The solution lies in the public's ability to read, read, read ... and listen, listen, listen to actual facts. ... NOT propoganda!

Heather- Have you noticed that Trump is starting to surge in the polls again? I'm happy with the recent special election results, but I'm concerned those elections have just been perfectly timed with a few scandals and are giving us a false sense of hope. I've noticed that if Trump manages to string a few weeks together of nothing catastrophic, he climbs quite handily in the polls.

Please see the recent IPSOS poll that came out today, which shows republicans and dems in a statistical tie right now (Ipsos is usually pretty biased towards democrats so this is a very concerning result). I worry that if Trump can manage to not break anything for a few months close to midterms, there might be a decent showing for republicans. I'm concerned that you, and many of us, are living in a liberal "cope" bubble and are ignoring the undeniable trend that shows Trump's popularity always seems to regress back to higher levels, thus suggesting that our country is more racist and hateful than we like to admit. I'd like to know that you're aware of this phenominon, and if you are, why you're not concerned. Thanks!

I really hope I live long enough to see what these multiple physical and cognitive reports actually say - if they in fact have even been done in any comprehensive way. And who these army of doctors and experts truly are - if in fact they even actually exist out side of a chosen few. And then I want to know exactly how many layers of deception it took to keep it all shrouded in subterfuge.

Phoenix213's avatar

It would be great if a real doctor put out the true report, instead of the felon writing his own report.

I wrote out a report years ago about how it would save the government money if we had universal health care. Yes it would raise taxes but the taxes raised on the UHC would save people money in the long run.
