How do small and extreme groups take over the American political conversation? In this final installment of a three-part series on educating citizens, Heather and Joanne look at how reactionary movements utilize bullying tactics to wrest control from the majority.

Heather and Joanne offer a comparison between the path to secession at the start of the Civil War, the rise of American Nazi-sympathizing groups in the 1930s, and the current reactionary movements around COVID-19 protocols and the education system.

I enjoyed the broadcast. I wish you would have spent more time on Smedley Butler. He was a true American hero in so many respects. The conspiracy of the "Liberty League," and how the corporate co-conspirators wanted him to lead a half million WWI veterans in overthrowing the government. However, Smedley being a man of honor, played along and then reported everything to congress. The conspirators were found guilty in a congressional hearing, but FDR let them off the hook, saying "We might need them later." But you probably already know all of this.
