No, I had not heard of Non-Violent Communication. But very aware of the violence built into current American vocabulary. Something specifically American, present before the advent of the last occupant of the White House. A key example is provided by a single adverb used for over-salting all action: "aggressively". Apparently, the only way of doing anything...

It follows that work on non-violent communication was an absolute necessity long before sub-Hitlerian speech invaded the country's mind-space...

I never forgot the day when I was asked to translate into German a passage on THE KIDNEYS from Claude Larre and Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee's commentaries on classical texts. No question of making such a translation, but the reading went very deep.
